According to the Ministry of Health of the Government of Spain, the data confirm that the most consumed substances are legal, in the first place, alcohol (between 75% and 78% of those surveyed between 2017-2020 have consumed) and in second place tobacco (39,4% smoked tobacco between 2019-2020, compared to 40,9% in 2017/2018). Cannabis is the most consumed illegal drug (10,5% in 2019/2020 compared to 11,0% in 2017/2018) followed by powder and / or base cocaine (2,5% in 2019-2020 compared to 2,2, 2017% in 2018/XNUMX).
ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES
The rest of the illegal substances studied have prevalences of consumption below 1%. Ecstasy 0,9%; amphetamines 0,7%; hallucinogens 0,6%; psychedelic mushrooms 0,4%; methamphetamines 0,3% and heroin 0,1%, the same percentage as volatile inhalants.
1,7% of Spaniards between 15 and 64 years old claim to have tried new psychoactive substances at some time in their lives.
The ages of initiation of consumption do not show notable changes. Legal substances (alcohol and tobacco) are those that are used at a younger age, while hypnosedatives and opioid analgesics are those that are used at a later age.
Regarding sex, over-the-counter sedative-hypnotics and over-the-counter opioid analgesics are the only psychoactive substances whose use is similar in both sexes (1,3% of men and 1,2% of women used over-the-counter hypnosedatives in the last year and 0,6% of men and 0,7% of women used opioid analgesics without a prescription, in the same period). In the case of cannabis, the percentage of men who have consumed it in the last year is more than double that of women (14,6% versus 6,3%) and in the case of powder and / or base cocaine this difference by sex it quadrupled (4,1% men and 1% women).
The pattern of polydrug use (use of 3 or more psychoactive substances) continues to be widespread. It is concentrated in men between the ages of 15 and 24 and includes very frequently (in 90% of cases) the consumption of alcohol, tobacco and cannabis.
